Principals Report

Every Student Matters!  Every Moment Counts!

As this is the final report for 2020, I would like to acknowledge the people who make our school the wonderful place that it is.  I would like to thank the parents who place their children in our care.  There is a huge trust that parents place in us and, as a staff, we respect and understand the responsibility you bestow upon us.

2020 has certainly thrown up some challenges for us all.  We started the year with bushfires throughout the state and extreme heat and then when we thought that we had some semblance of normality COVID-19 hit us with a vengeance.

We had to contend with remote learning then a staged return to school and finally with much relief we eventually returned back to school full time.  During this time all of our families were absolutely brilliant with the support and effort that each and every one has put in to continue the education of their children.  Also, during this time our whole school staff gelled brilliantly and worked as a team to deliver engaging and purposeful online learning activities.  I would like to thank everyone within the school community—parents, carers, teaching staff, non-teaching staff and the broader community for their support during this difficult period.

I would especially like to thank the staff of our school.  The dedication and commitment the teachers and non-teaching staff have towards developing the academic and social growth of the children is much
appreciated.  The classroom teachers are highly skilled professionals who I value greatly for their dedication to the school and for the care they show to every child.  Moama Public School is a fantastic school and I am very proud to be the principal.

To our Year 6 children who are going on to secondary school I wish you every success.  The grounding you have gained at Moama Public School will certainly assist you as you transition into this new phase of your education.  There are several families who are leaving the school as their children graduate from Year 6 and I would also like to wish them well as they navigate their children through adolescence and secondary education.  Some families have been with us for well over a decade and their contribution to the school cannot be overstated.  Amongst many other things, these families have volunteered for fundraisers, the swimming program, athletics carnivals and as reading helpers.  More than anything else, we have shared the raising of their children and they have shown confidence in our staff to do the best they can for their children.  This in an enormous trust and I appreciate the strength of the relationship that has grown over time.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge our students.  We have a great group of children at our school.  It is a pleasure each day to be greeted with happy, smiling faces and the knowledge that our students turn up to school each day striving to be their best.

To all families of the Moama school community I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.  I’m looking forward to the break but excited about the forthcoming school year in 2021.

School Concert

Last week we conducted our concert at school.  The students really joined into the Christmas spirit.  I would like to thank the teachers for organising the class songs and routines.  The students entertained us throughout the afternoon.  I would also like to thank the parents and/or carers for supporting this event remotely. All of the concert photos taken are available to view on our school website.

Presentation Day—Wednesday, December 9

Today we held our Presentation Day at school.  During this ceremony we celebrated the wonderful achievements of all of our students.  This is whether they received an award or not.  We are very proud of all of our students and know that each and every one of them excel in their own right.  A huge thank you goes out to our teacher Ms Campbell and our School Administration Officer Di Atkins for their efforts organising this event.

Year 6 Graduation—Wednesday, December 9

Tonight we will be holding our Year 6 Graduation Night at the Moama Bowling Club in a COVID safe environment.  This event will be completely different to previously held graduations due to COVID however we are looking forward to it immensely.  The change in format did take a lot of organisation.  Therefore, I would like to especially thank Ms Camin, Ms Jeffs, Ms McCartney and Ms Campbell for their efforts.  I would also like to thank all of the families for their support too.

Reports

Reports were sent home this afternoon with the students.  If you have any questions feel free to contact your classroom teacher.

Step Up—Week 11

Students will all gather in the hall for a special assembly on the Monday of our last week.  During this time, we will then announce and organise them into their classes for 2021.  After this the students will spend time with their 2021 teachers and classmates throughout Monday and Tuesday.

On the last day for students, Wednesday December 16, students will return back to their 2020 classrooms to celebrate the end of the school year.

This whole process will allow them to have time to become familiar with the students they will be learning with in 2021.

Careful consideration has been given to class lists.  Hopefully this process will assist with the transition from the 2020school year into 2021.

A full school assembly will also take place Wednesday at around 2.45pm to farewell all of our students.  Students are dismissed on the last day at the normal time of 3.05pm.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in 2021!
