HOW2Learn

This year schools across the Riverina are implementing the How2Learn program. Moama Public School trained a team of four teachers in the HOW2Learn strategy and we are launching with students in 2014.

HOW2Learn stands for Higher Order Ways To Learn and is a strategy focused on building the capacity of students to learn.

It helps students to develop a disposition to learning that provides the skills to become:

  • Successful learners, who enjoy learning, make connections and transfer knowledge and skills
  • Confident Individuals who are able to live a safe, healthy and fulfilling life.
  • Active and responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of present and future generations.

We encourage our children to reflect on how and why goals have been achieved and what they can do to continue improving. Teachers will use a range of positive teaching practices that can be utilised with all students to encourage clever thinking and lifelong learning.

Students will learn about the 5 dispositions : reciprocity, resilience, resourcefulness, reflectiveness and responsibility. This combined with the 22 learning habits will be taught explicitly each week in a way that students can adapt to their learning.
